As the Finance Director of Sexpression:UK, you are responsible for managing the
organisation’s financial matters. This includes, with the support of the Trustee Treasurer,
ensuring that we comply with all regulations and guidelines which are required by bodies
such as the Charity Commission. Working alongside the Fundraising Director, you will
ensure that Sexpression:UK has sufficient funds to continue to operate at the level we
currently do, with the aim of increasing our funding position over the course of the next few
years.

Responsibilities
- Oversee Sexpression:UK’s budget
- Lead on developing the budget for the calendar year, working with the National Director, Treasurer Trustee, and Fundraising Director to do so.
- Ensure external funding is allocated appropriately, working with the Fundraising Director to do so.
- The budget should be formalised and approved before the start of the calendar year by the Board of Trustees
- Disseminate the annual budget to the entire charity
- Oversee expenditure within the budget to ensure they align throughout the calendar year
- Oversee Sexpression:UK’s funding streams
- External funding streams
- Allocate external funds to the budget based on any restrictions they may have, and ensure the funding is aligned with the charity’s mission and values. Work with the Fundraising Director to achieve this.
- Oversee these external funding streams throughout the year to ensure they are being utilised effectively. Report on any external funding streams at National Committee and Trustee meetings.
- Work with the Monitoring and Evaluation Director and Fundraising Director to create necessary reports to justify how funding has been utilised.
- Internal funding streams
- Allocate internal funds to the budget, broadcasting expected sums utilising past years’ data.
- Oversee these internal funding streams throughout the year to ensure they are being utilised effectively. Report on any external funding streams at the monthly OLMs.
- Work with the Fundraising Director to find new funding opportunities to support the charity’s sustainability. This can include both internal and external funding streams.
- Manage Sexpression:UK’s National bank account
- Act as a co-signatory on the Sexpression:UK’s bank account
- Record all incoming and outgoing transactions
- Meet monthly with the Treasurer Trustee to ensure the bank statement and accounts align.
- Make all necessary payments on behalf of the charity.
- Update the correspondence address and/or forwarding address from our registered address to their address(es) for the length of your term and facilitate the subsequent changes once a successor is appointed
- Ensure financial transparency across the charity
- Provide regular updates to the National Committee, Trustees, and branches about the financial state of the organisation
- Present monthly financial updates to the National Committee
- Present quarterly financial updates to the Trustee Board
- This should include, but is not limited to: an overview of
expenditure and income against the budget; an overview of how funding is being utilised; and any insights or advice based on this overview, for the trustees to consider.
- Present financial summaries at the Branches’ Councils. These will usually be overviews of those presented to the Board of Trustees.
- Manage the submission of the annual accounts
- With assistance from Trustees, support the preparation of the yearly accounts to be reported to the Charities Commission (e.g. invoices, receipts, remittance advice).
- The bank statements and accounts should be finalised in the annual report by mid-Summer, to be presented at the following Trustee meeting for approval from the Board.
